I am a qualified counsellor and registered member of BACP working with Adults and young people in Hastings, St Leonards and Eastbourne. I am available for evening and daytime appointments. My usual fee is £40 per 50 minute session. I offer both short term counselling (6-12 sessions) and open ended contracts. I offer a discounted fee for the first initial session of £20. This first meeting gives you a chance to talk through your expectations of counselling and find out whether you would feel happy working with me.
I have experience of working with young adults at YMCA Dialogue and with adults on low wage/benefits at Counselling Plus Community. I have worked with clients experiencing a range of issues including: anxiety, bereavement, depression, trauma, abuse and relationship issues. I offer a place to be heard by someone who is not connected to your problems and concerns but willing to go through them with you. Having someone to "walk alongside" as you explore your thoughts and feelings can bring new perspective and insight that can offer comfort and new opportunities for change. I also have experience in facilitating therapeutic groups for anger management and creative expression as therapy.
I am an integrative counsellor which means I draw on a variety of influences and theory in my work. My training includes Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and Person Centred theories as well as Mindfulness and Narrative Therapy. I recognise the value of tailoring support and learning to most benefit individuals, I achieve this through close attention to your needs with empathic, collaborative and non-judgemental engagement. Integration is for me finding a thread that anchors us. I believe that in difficult times we can lose sight of the thread that helps us feel whole. Working creatively can help to find a perspective that steadies us through life's challenges. I offer clients the opportunity to be heard and responded to in a safe, non judgemental way that fosters an attitude of listening to ourselves for healing and growth. The most important element of my work is the relationship I build with my clients. Research shows that it is the relationship between counsellor and client that is the most significant indicator of therapeutic benefit for the client. The working relationship that I build with my clients is the most important aspect of my work, I will often share with you the theories that inform my thinking as I believe that you are the expert when it comes to understanding you.
In addition to my counselling practice I have experience supporting children and adults with acute mental distress, including employment as a tutor working with children diagnosed with autism. In my work with children with autism I also worked closely with families. I have been inspired by this to continue working with children, young adults and families, particularly in working to overcome barriers to support and learning through counselling.
I am a registered member of the BACP and adhere to their ethical guidelines ensuring I offer my clients a safe and confidential service.
